Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Compliance Specialist supports the organization’s international shipping and trade compliance activities. This role completes  documentation, regulatory filings, and coordinates across departments to help ensure compliance with import and export regulations. The Compliance Specialist works closely with internal teams, freight partners, and government agencies, escalating complex issues to management as needed.

 

 

Compliance Specialist Salary Range:

$68,640.00- $82,368.00

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions Statement(s):

  • Performs compliance activities related to U.S. import and export regulations.
  • Ensures proper use and understanding of Incoterms in international shipping.
  • Conducts classification of goods (HTS, Schedule B, HS, ECCN, etc.) and helps maintain accurate system data.
  • Coordinates Free Trade Agreement (FTA) activities, including gathering data for qualification reviews, preparing certificates, and responding to information requests.
  • Maintains the Export Compliance Manual.
  • Executes screening processes, including restricted parties and sanctioned or embargoed destinations.
  • Utilizes the ACE portal to support compliance activities, including retrieving and reviewing data.
  • Completes tasks in the CARM portal and supports Non-Resident Importer (NRI) activities as needed.
  • Supports CTPAT compliance efforts, including documentation and internal coordination.
  • Analyzes international tariff landscape and helps identify relative business impacts.
  • Conducts EEI audit reviews of third-party preparers using ACE data, flags discrepancies for resolution.
  • Maintains recordkeeping processes, including maintaining archives in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assesses transportation methods to ensure compliance with trade regulations.
  • Supports compliance with Fish & Wildlife requirements for products containing shell materials.
  • Assists with USDA and CITES documentation for internationally shipped regulated materials.
  • Coordinates with internal departments (Sales, Shipping, Legal, Finance, etc.) to support trade compliance activities.
  • Coordinates and conducts employee training efforts and answers compliance related questions.
  • Applies problem-solving skills to address challenges related to international shipping.
  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to streamline compliance tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:  Bachelor’s degree in Business or Operations Management preferred. Associates degree with 3 years of applicable work experience in Compliance. Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution (CLTD) and coursework on exporting such as Certified Export Specialist preferred.

 

Experience working in the following government portals preferred: ACE, FWS, eDec platforms. Familiar with international transportation requirements, including ocean & air. Ability to manage multiple, concurrent initiatives (multi-task). Fundamental working knowledge of LEAN principles required. Good understanding of freight, distribution and supply chain terminology.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Working conditions are normal for a warehouse environment. Open warehouse area creates a non-temperature-controlled condition. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
